The trend of MVP Quarterbacks becoming the cover athlete for EA Sports’ Madden is continuing as Lamar Jackson says he will be on the cover of Madden 21. He also adds that he isn’t afraid of curses, per the Baltimore Ravens. This marks the second straight year where the MVP of the league will be appearing on the cover of the next year’s Madden, as Patrick Mahomes was the cover athlete of Madden 20. Now he and Ravens fans are hoping he is cursed the same way Patrick Mahomes was, a Super Bowl Champion.
The Madden 21 Cover Athlete burst onto the scene in 2019, taking the league by storm and becoming the MVP of the 100th NFL Season. The 23 year-old quarterback showed leaps of improvement in his sophomore campaign, throwing for 3127 yards, 36 touchdowns (which led the league) and 6 interceptions for a passer rating of 133.3 (third in the league) in 15 starts. He also dominated with his legs as he put up 7 rushing touchdowns along side a record breaking 1206 rushing yards. Not bad for a quarterback.
Those efforts earned Lamar Jackson the NFL MVP, a Pro Bowl selection and a spot on the 2019 NFL 1st Team All-Pro. Jackson has turned into one of the brightest young talents in the NFL, despite scrutiny he received upon entering the league. Many teams and General Managers, including former General Manager Bill Polian, said that Jackson should switch positions to Wide Receiver. Now, those General Managers look like fools and so do the other 31 teams that passed on Jackson before the Baltimore Ravens selected him with the 32nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft just two years ago.
