Free agent point guard Lonzo Ball has signed a four-year, $85 million deal with the Chicago Bulls, as first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The deal is a sign-and-trade with the Bulls sending Tomas Satoransky, Garrett Temple, and a second-round pick to the New Orleans Pelicans in return for Ball, according to Charania.
The Lonzo Ball to Chicago rumors have been circulating around NBA Twitter the past week, so it is nice to finally have some closure. The Lonzo Ball-Zach LaVine pairing will be an interesting one, especially since LaVine should not have to shoulder so much of the offensive production now.
However, LaVine has not confirmed that he will be in Chicago come next season, as he wants “respect” when it comes to any new deal this offseason. He is eligible for a contract extension with the Bulls and said this at a press conference on Monday.
“I just want my respect, that’s the main thing. I outplayed my contract. I’ve been very loyal to Chicago. I like Chicago. I just want my respect. If that’s now or later, it’s something we’ve got to work out internally.”

Regardless of what materializes from the LaVine situation, Ball has found a new home and will hope to continue his run of good form last season. The eldest Ball brother averaged a career-high 14.6 points per game as well as shooting a career-high 37.8% from three. In addition to Ball, the Bulls will also be bringing in Alex Caruso to shore up their guard depth.
