Lonzo Ball optimistic about his return: ‘I’m going to play again’

Regardless of what your feelings about Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball are, you can’t help but feel bad for him. He last played a game in January of 2022 before going down with a major knee injury, effectively ending his season.

It was said three surgeries would be needed to repair the knee ending his 2022 season, but then we didn’t really hear too much regarding the situation for what felt like a while until reports surfaced saying he may not ever be able to play basketball again.

Stephen A. Smith recently blasted Ball saying he couldn’t get up out of a chair, followed by Ball posting a video of him getting up from a chair while calling out Smith.

Smith refused to back down, doubling down on what he said–claiming the video in no way shows he is actually healthy. The two just went back and forth for a bit with the whole situation now seemingly over.

But perhaps Lonzo Ball is using this whole situation as some extra motivation. As he now seems more determined than ever to get back on the court.

“I’m going to play again,” he said. “For me, I know what I gotta do to get back. And I’m just on a path doing what I gotta do every day, taking it step-by-step. I don’t look too far ahead. I know in my near future that I will be back on the court for sure.”

Quote Via the Score

Ball has already been ruled out for the 2023-2024 season, meaning he will have to miss his second straight season with this injury.

It’s been a long road of recovery for Lonzo Ball with still quite a while to go. He certainly isn’t a stranger to injuries, never playing more than 65 games in a season. But this one is certainly quite different.

I’m hoping he is able to make a full recovery because no 25-year-old should have his career derailed by a knee injury. I know for one thing, the Bulls are certainly hoping he can return soon.
