Imitation is the biggest form of flattery. Ladd McConkey is so good that Georgia seems like they have now crafted a new position around his play style. McConkey is just a junior but they already added his future replacement to the roster. Remember the name London Humphreys. He will be the next iteration of McConkey at Georgia.
Humphreys, a rising sophomore, was just snagged by the Dawgs out of the transfer portal. Humphreys was the number one rated receiver in the portal after lighting it up during his freshman season at Vanderbilt. With Vandy, Humphreys notched 22 receptions for 439 yards and four touchdowns. He also did this against Georgia which probably firmly put him on Kirby Smart’s radar.
Humphreys comes from a baseball, basketball, and track background. He’s similar to McConkey in the sense that he’s way faster than he gets credit for. Humphreys isn’t just good because of the route runner. He’s a legit burner and checks in at 6-foot-3. He’s going to be a nice toy for this Dawgs offense in 2024.
The Georgia receiver room is really coming together. RaRa Thomas and Dominic Lovett were added via the portal last year. Now it sounds like Colbie Young is on his way from Miami. McConkey could easily decide to return as well.
Just don’t sleep on Humphreys. He passed the eye test last year at a smaller program. Not saying he’s a lock to be a first round pick but he should be another interesting toy to use for Georgia next year.
