Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold Set To Join Real Madrid

Liverpool’s fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join La Liga giants Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer once his contract in England expires.

While the final details of the contract are still being ironed out, it is expected that he will sign a five-year contract with Los Blancos. The two clubs have yet to contact each other about Alexander-Arnold’s situation. However, Madrid will have to inform Liverpool once the contract is signed.

Madrid has had an interest in the 26-year-old right back for a while now, dating back to March of last year. They attempted to sign him this January but saw their advances rejected by a Liverpool side that was determined to hold onto their star defender as they push for their first Premier League title in five years. However, with his contract expiring this June, he is now free to finally put an end to the transfer drama and make the move to Spain.

The 26-year-old has been at Liverpool his entire career, starting in the club’s academy at the age of six before making his professional debut in 2016. Since then, he has made 349 appearances for the Reds, scoring 22 goals and providing 87 assists along the way.

He helped Liverpool win its first Premier League title in 2019-20, along with also winning a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cups. He was also named the club’s vice-captain in 2023 following the departure of Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League.

On top of losing Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool is also looking at the possibility of losing captain Virgil van Dijk and the Premier League’s best player, Mohamed Salah, this summer on free transfers as well. While the club has already attempted to resign both Van Dijk and Salah, their futures with Liverpool are still uncertain.
