Liverpool has made it a priority to sign midfielder Alexis Mac Allister before he leaves for international duty with Argentina. Medicals need to pass, but they are now one step closer, as the team and player have agreed to a five-year deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool will pay the buy out clause in the next days, way less than reported £60m fee.

According to an ESPN report, the deal could be worth around £50 million ($62.18m) after he signed a new contract lasting until 2025.
If the Premier League side does get the deal over the finish line, it will be their first major signing of the summer following a disappointing 5th-place finish this season.
The 24-year-old Mac Allister has been playing for Brighton since signing from Argentinos Juniors in 2019. He was a key player in Brighton’s impressive 6th-place finish in the 2022-23 Premier League season, leading Brighton in goals (10) and shots on target (32).
It was his strong play for Argentina at the 2022 World Cup that brought him to notoriety. After not playing in Argentina’s opening match, Mac Allister started the next six matches including the World Cup Final against France.
In Qatar, Mac Allister scored his first career goal for his nation in a 2-0 win over Poland. He also assisted Ángel Di María in the final, which Argentina won on penalties.
Signing a new midfielder is essential for Liverpool following the departure of three midfielders this season. The Scouse club was looking to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund but was priced out by his nearly £120m transfer fee.
Those players leaving this summer are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keïta.
Another midfielder that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have reportedly been looking at is Kouadio Manu Koné. The 22-year-old has been playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
Building a young midfield will be very beneficial for Liverpool in the future, considering Jordan Henderson and Thiago are both 32-years-old.
Mac Allister will be traveling to China for Argentina’s matches against Australia on June 15 and Indonesia on June 19. Liverpool is hoping that when he does join up with his World Cup-winning teammates it will be as a member of “The Reds.”
