Luckily, the Lions drafted two interior offensive linemen this past cycle, because they’re going to need one of them to play center now. Four-time Pro Bowl selection Frank Ragnow has shocked the NFL world by announcing his retirement.
Ragnow, 29, played seven NFL seasons after being selected by the Matt Patricia regime in the first round out of Arkansas in 2018. He’s now calling it quits and announced his retirement on Instagram.
“These past couple of months have been very trying as I’ve come to the realization that my football journey is ending and I’m officially retiring from the NFL,” Ragnow posted on social media. “I’ve tried to convince myself that I’m feeling good, but I’m not, and it’s time to prioritize my health and my [family’s] future.
“I have given this team everything I have, and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don’t. I have to listen to my body, and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life. The Lions organization has been absolutely incredible throughout this process, and I can’t emphasize this enough, how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all.”
On the surface, it looks like Graham Glasgow will shift to center. Rookie Tate Ratledge will probably get the first look at right guard, while Christian Mahogany will get first crack at left guard. Not exactly the most ideal news to get served to you right before training camp…
Either way, Cheers to a hell of a career by Ragnow. He was one of the best players at his position for a good chunk of time. The Lions will miss him.
