Lewis Brinson Gives Yoshinobu Yamamoto High Praise
Lewis Brinson played for the Yomiuri Giants in the NPB a season ago. Brinson is a former MLB player who may be qualified to give his opinion on what it was like to face Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
During a recent interview, Brinson was overflowed with praise for Yamamoto. Check out this soundbite. It’s a good listen.
Yes, Brinson stinks. The guy can’t hit at all so I get if you’re skeptical on his response. He’s a career .198 hitter at the MLB level and compiled a WAR mark of -3.6. That was over the course of over 1,000 at-bats. He did hit a more respectable .254 in Japan a season ago.
Brinson’s energy when saying all of this stuff is what should speak volumes. It’s hard to watch Yamamoto pitch and not be impressed. It’s four high quality pitches that he can pitch for strikes. There is a reason why this guy won the equivalent of the Cy Young Award in three consecutive seasons. It’s not hard to figure out that this dude can pitch. It’s still nice to hear the praise from Brinson regardless.
The competition to sign Yamamoto is fierce. It seems like the $ for his services continues to climb substantially over the course of the offseason. Time will tell who wins this one. Regardless, fans should feel excited about what Yamamoto can bring to the table when he finally comes over to MLB.
