Is Leon Draisaitl A Mario Kart Guy?

Leon Draisaitl is one of the best players in hockey and a key part of a team that’s a win away from the Stanley Cup Final. However, it just so happens that he’s not the biggest fan of the famous Mario Kart video game. The Edmonton Oilers superstar was asked about what the team does while traveling. You should really take a look below because his reply is absolutely hilarious:

Not only does he not like the game, but he’s an active contributor in interfering with his teammates playing. That’s what I call an expert hater. In all honesty, it’s a great clip that provides some relief from the intensity of the later stages of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. While we know Leon does not play, I have a lot of questions. Who is Connor McDavid playing as? What about Zach Hyman? Surely Stuart Skinner is guaranteed some races after a huge performance right?

Even if there’s some acrimony on the team plane, it’s clear that it does not get close to the ice. Draisaitl’s squad put in a complete effort in Game 5 against the Stars, resulting in a 3-1 win. Tomorrow night they have a chance to clinch the Western Conference and play in the Cup Final for the first time in almost 20 years (sidenote: check out what Andrew picked ahead of the series for how it would end). This is a team and core group that’s seen a lot of heartbreak over the years and now has their best shot of finding some glory in the McDavid era.

On Rainbow Road?

This video has got me thinking about this team. Are they playing the Nintendo Switch version of Mario Kart? Or does someone bring a Wii in (me personally I am a Wii Mario Kart guy to the very end. When I put that remote together with the steering wheel it was time to lock in). Assuming flights from Dallas to Edmonton are a couple hours how is playing time split up? Being able to understand this side of professional athletes is awesome. We tend to forget that they are human beings too and love to have fun and enjoy themselves outside of the game. While #29 probably unwinds after a game in much different ways, knowing this is how the Oilers locker room can bond is honestly really cool and funny.
