Legendary French Striker Set To Move To MLS-Side LAFC

France’s all-time highest goalscorer Olivier Giroud is set to move from AC Milan to LAFC on a free transfer this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. He will sign a contract that keeps him in Los Angeles through the end of the 2025 MLS season.

The 37-year-old had already agreed to personal terms with LAFC back in March, but it was unknown how long his contract with the Black and Gold would be. He will officially join the club when his contract with AC Milan expires June 30.

Giroud, who is currently teammates with American star Christian Pulisic, has scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists so far this season. 13 of those goals have come in the Serie A where Milan is currently in second place.

LAFC will be Giroud’s eighth club at the tail end of a remarkable professional career. After beginning his career with his hometown club Grenoble, the Frenchman went on to play for some of Europe’s biggest clubs. This includes a nine-year stint in the Premier League with Arsenal and Chelsea, the latter of which he won a Champions League title with during the 2020-2021 season.

More impressively, however, have been his performances with the French National Team. Giroud has scored 57 goals in 131 international appearances for France, the most in the nation’s history. This is more than other French legends such as Thierry Henry and Michel Platini.

He also helped France win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, despite not registering a goal during the tournament.

This is a great signing for LAFC. The club has been looking to fill the void left by former star man Carlos Vela after his departure following the 2023 season, and Giroud looks like the perfect solution. He will also join former France teammate Hugo Lloris in Los Angeles after the goalkeeper departed Premier League side Tottenham in December.
