Leafs Sign Tyler Bertuzzi To One-Year Deal

Brad Treliving isn’t playing games. The former Calgary general manager has been aggressive early during his first year on the job. Ryan Reaves and John Klingberg were signed earlier. Now Toronto adds a big fish to the table to even further improve the offense. The Toronto Maple Leafs are signing Tyler Bertuzzi!

The team has already announced the news of the deal. Bertuzzi to Toronto for one-year at $5.5 million.

Bertuzzi, the nephew of Todd, had a coming out party in 2022-23. Especially after the trade to the Bruins. In 21 games with the Bruins, Bertuzzi posted 16 points during the regular season. He added another ten points during the first round playoff exit and proved to be a really good fit for the team. One of those playoff performances that can lay out hits and even be a playmaker.

It’s kinda surprising Boston couldn’t find a way to keep Bertuzzi. Isn’t that what the Taylor Hall trade was for? Are we supposed to pretend that didn’t happen? Dmitry Orlov also departed Boston making matters worse, although that one was expected.

Bruins Seem Determined To Keep Tyler Bertuzzi

What an incredible addition to the Leafs. There is no question that this is an upgrade over what Toronto had with Michael Bunting who just left for Carolina. Matthew Knies appears to be a young stud in the making too. Toronto also has the other Robertson brother on that side too as a developmental option. Even with the flat cap teams struggling to deal with, the Leafs appear improved. Be careful telling Toronto fans that.
