LaNorris Sellers Turned Down $8 million NIL Offer To Stay At South Carolina

The talk of the town this off-season has been South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and with good reason. Last season, the redshirt freshman threw for 2,534 yards, an 18/7 TD/INT ratio, but also ran for 674 yards and seven touchdowns. Sellers would have been a hot name in the transfer portal, as many schools came running to offer him boatloads of money to leave, but he remained loyal, reportedly turning down upwards of $8 million.

His father recently spoke with CBSSports.com and had this to say on all the NIL offers that came his son’s way:

“He was offered all kinds of crazy numbers,” said his father, Norris Sellers. “I told him he could say, ‘I’m gonna stay or I’m gonna go.’ By my two cents: It was to get into college on a scholarship, play ball, get our degree and go on about our business. This NIL deal came later. We didn’t come here to make money. We came here to get our education, play ball. And with schools calling, we’re not gonna jump ship because they’re offering more than what we’re getting. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

“You’re 19. You don’t need ($8 million). You’re in a great spot. There were several talks, but it never really crossed his mind (to leave). It’s a challenge with colleges offering younger guys that kind of money. Who’s gonna say no to $8 million for two years? They’re gonna be swayed if you don’t have the right people in your corner.”

Listen, normally I am all for being loyal to a place that gave you a shot. LaNorris Sellers led the Gamecocks to a 9-4 record last year, exceeding all expectations. However, $8 million is nothing to sneeze at, especially if it’s a big-time program that came calling. I’m not saying Dad is wrong on this one, but maybe Sellers should’ve sought other opinions on the matter as well.

At any rate, the Gamecocks are going to be a fun watch this season, and we will continue to see the development of Sellers as he potentially grows his draft stock into being one of the top quarterbacks eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft. Is the hype real?
