Rex Burkhead 2.0? Maybe… We’re going to talk about Lan Larison now, who is being totally overlooked in a mega deep running back class. Let’s get right to the 2025 NFL Draft profile on the UC Davis RB!
Larison, a zero star quarterback recruit coming out of high school, didn’t receive a Combine invite. He probably deserved one, but given how deep this class is, it’s pretty understandable why one wasn’t given here. The Caldwell, Idaho, native is listed at 6-foot, 210, but who knows exactly how accurate that is.
I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t catch much FCS football. However, Larison is one of those players worth digging into. If you’re going to make it at the NFL level, you better be a rare breed at this level. The good news is the accolades speak for themselves. Larison made First-Team All-Big Sky in 2022, 2023, and 2024. He spent all five seasons with UC Davis.
Larison was over 1,000 rushing yards in each of the last two years but 2024 was the real breakout. The numbers are borderline video game like. Not Zay Slaton like (IYKYK) but still ridiculous. We’re talking about 284 carries for 1,465 yards and 17 touchdowns. Oh, and add in 62 receptions for 847 yards and six scores.
No, Larison isn’t in the stock notes, and I fully admit I’m late to this one, but I did take a peek at his game. It felt like I was watching some combination of Isaiah Davis and Dylan Laube from last year. More like 80% of Davis mixed in with the receiving prowess of Laube. For the record, I didn’t like Davis from last year and view Larison as an improved version of that.
No Senior Bowl invite. No East-West invite. It just sucks we didn’t see Larison compete against better competition. The rumor is that he ran a 4.46 at his Pro Day. I’m not sure I saw that level of speed, but he definitely didn’t appear slow, and the hands look real.
I have an undrafted grade on Lan Larison. I would maybe go higher, but this class is just so stupid, abnormally stacked. I have a hard time taking him above other studs who won’t get picked. He definitely deserves a shot, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he turns into a Rex Burkhead type that becomes a gritty roster player.
