After being in front of the camera since 2012, former Los Angeles Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson has retired from his post-NFL job, he announced on his social media Tuesday.
The Hall-of-Fame back has been known for being a fantasy football god and an MVP running back during his playing days, and a football analyst after. Now, Tomlinson is embarking on a new stage of his life and will be moving away from football.
Tomlinson announced on his X, formerly known as Twitter, regarding his retirement from NFL Network.
“I walked away from football at the age of 32!!! Today at the age of 44, I’ve decided to retire from being an on-air football analyst! I’d like to send my sincere appreciation and thanks to @nflnetwork for 10 great years!! Thanks to all my colleagues and friends. It was a blast being able to stay close to the game creating great football shows with you guys. I look forward to all the opportunities that this new chapter in my life will bring!!”
Tomlinson played in 11 NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers and New York Jets.
Across his career, Tomlinson rushed for almost 14,000 career rushing yards and totaled 145 rushing touchdowns. Not only did Tomlinson gain yardage and score on the ground, but he did in the pass-catching game. The Texas native caught 624 passes for almost 4,772 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.
After his career, the former San Diego great was inducted into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame in 2017, cementing his career and legacy as an all-time great running back.
As of now, Tomlinson hasn’t mentioned his life past broadcasting. In the past, Tomlinson lived in San Diego, Calif., but now resides in Texas with his wife and two kids.
