Kyrie Irving and Bill Simmons were never meant to be friends. It’s safe to say the lifelong Celtics fan still has sour grapes over the NBA Champion’s time in Boston. After Irving signed a three-year, $126 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks, Simmons chimed in with some thoughts. What he probably wasn’t expecting was a response from the former Cavalier and Net. Check out the Twitter exchange below:
I see you couldn’t help yourself with this one huh Billy Boy. Just wanna say I appreciate you and continue to be the person you are. My Tribe says hello.

Who doesn’t love a little back-and-forth on social media? This is not the first time Uncle Drew has gotten into it on Twitter. Earlier this month, the eight-time All-Star had words with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
They had initially agreed to play each other in a one-on-one pickup basketball game, but we’ve heard absolutely nothing about that since. It remains to be seen if Simmons has any responses ready for Irving.
We have seen The Ringer founder voice his displeasure for Irving and his personality in the past. It’s tough to determine who’s in the wrong, especially when you consider Irving’s disastrous Celtics tenure. He verbally committed to staying in Boston ahead of the 2018-2019 season before completely abandoning that and signing with Brooklyn.
However, this is the court of public opinion. You will find people that defend both sides of this argument, and those who simply do not care.
Yes, there are certain red flags to Irving that people don’t want anything to do with. However, you can’t put a price on talent. His ability with the ball in his hands is simply incomparable. Simmons clearly tried to fire off some sarcasm with that “2 for 25” remark.
Kyrie Irving and Bill Simmons had a quick exchange on Twitter. Will more come out of this? You never know.
