MLB wants to have their cake and eat it too. The only problem is they’re ignorant about what’s to come. MLB wants more offense but has created a rule that’s going to make life even harder on hitters. As if hitting today’s modern pitching wasn’t difficult enough. Now they want them to do it with less time to adjust. Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker had some wise words to say about the awful pitching clock.
VIA Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle:
“These pitchers are the best pitchers in the world, and you’re giving them more of an advantage, and you have to rush in the box – it takes away some of the thought process that goes into hitting,” Tucker said.
“I think it could be maybe a little longer, instead of just stepping out and stepping back in.”
This isn’t anything different than most players have been echoing. Chris Bassitt iterated similar thoughts a few months back in a really elegant statement that fans should hear. The pitch clock is going to create two problems within baseball.
More arm injuries.
Less offense.
Baseball is in serious trouble. They have manipulated the very DNA of the sport. The only sport that didn’t have a clock now has one. All hell is going to break loose when we start having umps taking over games because someone didn’t quite get ready before the clock ran out. If yesterday wasn’t enough of a warning about what’s to come, I don’t know how every fan of baseball isn’t very, very worried about the future of the sport.
