The amount of quarterback talent that’s in the transfer portal is getting ridiculous. Another one has entered the chat and this time it’s Kyle McCord. The now former Ohio State signal caller performed well enough to at least stick on the roster. This seems like McCord’s decision.
247 Sports was the first to report the news:
“Ohio State starting quarterback Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal early Monday morning, 247Sports has learned.”
McCord, 21, can technically pull his name from the portal at any time and return to Ohio State. Remember, McCord was high school teammates with Marvin Harrison Jr. With Marv heading to the NFL, maybe Ohio State is less of a draw for McCord. Maybe the program also told him to test the waters because they had a target in mind to replace him. I guess we’ll never truly know what happened behind the scenes.
McCord put together a solid season with Ohio State. They lost the Michigan game by an eyelash. The Philadelphia native completed 65.8% of his throws while also sporting a TD to INT ratio of 24-6. You can do worse considering it was his first season as the starter while playing for a premier program. McCord also threw for 3,170 passing yards on the season.
There will be interest in McCord in the portal. We’re talking about the former No. 28 overall player in the 2021 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also got the requisite size at 6-foot-3, 215. Time will tell who lands McCord via the portal.
