Report: Knicks Tried For Kevin Durant During Trade Deadline

The Knicks reportedly made a push for Kevin Durant at the trade deadline. That much is certain. Now, with another playoff exit behind them and pressure mounting in New York, you gotta wonder if they circle back this offseason. Durant remains one of the league’s most lethal scorers, and the Knicks are desperate for that final piece. The question is: will Phoenix be willing to tango?

Shams Charania just confirmed that Leon Rose made a call in March for the Slim Reaper. However, the first order of business for New York is to hire a coach. There is tea leaves suggesting they have a preferred choice, but more needs to be done. Hear from the man himself about what went down in March:

More Stars In The Big Apple?

Acquiring KD, presumably while keeping Karl-Anthony Towns, would create a bonafide Big Three. While defensive question marks still exist, this move would push any remaining chips to the middle of the table. Despite not having love for the Knicks in the past, you’d have to think Durant would have interest in moving to a contender. Especially in an Eastern Conference that projects to be wide open.

Even on an expiring deal, he would not come cheap. Names like Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, or Mitchell Robinson would have to be sent out to make this work. The Knicks do have a few more picks remaining, along with some interesting young players. However, it’s a big question mark with the NBA Draft still weeks away.

The Knicks aren’t the only ones watching Durant’s situation closely—teams like the Spurs and Rockets are lurking, armed with assets and cap space. But as of now, nothing is certain and everything is in play. If Durant becomes available, expect a bidding war—one the Knicks could go all out for.
