Georgia HC Kirby Smart has signed an extension with the school that will keep him with the university until 2033. This deal was approved by university officials today during their annual board of directors meetings. This extension also makes Smart the highest-paid Head Coach in the country at $13 million, which is up from his $10.75 million annual salary he had before. The money on his deal is guaranteed through the first half of his deal. This is the second time Georgia has backed the Brinks truck up for Smart.

“I continue to be grateful and humbled by our administration’s commitment to our football program,” Smart said in a statement. “The current culture in collegiate athletics is everchanging and as challenging as it has ever been, so I truly appreciate the leadership that our team is continually provided. I have an immense pride for representing my alma mater and look forward to that relationship continuing for many years to come.”
This makes total sense. Kirby Smart is one of the best recruiters in the country, gets the most out of his guys every Saturday as a natural motivator, and is a proven winner. This Bulldogs team from a year ago might have done the three-peat had they made the College Football Playoff. Smart passes Dabo Sweeney at Clemson, USC’s Lincoln Riley, and newly hired Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer, who replaced the recently retired Nick Saban, all of whom were making upwards of $10 million a year. It feels like year after year, this Bulldogs team is among the best in the country and is sending out some of the best prospects to the NFL Draft, and they have Smart to thank for that.
