Kim Ng has been hired as the Miami Marlins General Manager. This is a monumental hire by the Marlins. Ng, with this hire, becomes the highest ranking female executive in baseball. Ng also becomes the first female general manager in any major American sports league.
Kim Ng has over 30 years of experience working with three teams as a high ranking executive. Ng as an executive has eight postseason appearances, six pennants, and three World Series Championships.
However, not only is this move extremely progressive and good for the growth of the game. But the Marlins are bringing in a proven winner.
Ng has spent the last nine years working for Joe Torre in the MLB Commissioner’s office. Prior to that, her most impressive stint was with the Yankees when Ng was the assistant GM to Brian Cashman during the Yankees late 90s dynasty.
I entered Major League Baseball as an intern and, after decades of determination, it is the honor of my career to lead the Miami Marlins as their next general manager.

Derek Jeter has been doing wonders as Marlins owner. And now add a breakthrough hire to his resume. But this isn’t all about Jeter, Ng has had many years of experience and brings the Marlins a winning culture that will transcend the team.
My goal is now to bring championship baseball to Miami. I am both humbled and eager to continue building the winning culture our fans expect and deserve.

Ng’s qualifications are above and beyond what teams look for in hiring GM’s. Many GM’s have been hired for far less. Ng is long overdue her shot at taking the reigns building a roster. However, her time has come and at a time when it looks like the Marlins are turning a corner. It is the right time.
