Kevon Looney has signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. This was first reported by Shams Charania on Twitter/X.
The center will be leaving Golden State after spending his first ten years of his career with the Warriors. Now, he is on the move to another Western Conference team in the Pelicans. Looney was drafted to the Warriors in the 2015 NBA Draft. He became an integral part to the Warriors in recent years and was a staple of that 2022 championship team. He is leaving Golden State as a 3x NBA Champion. Now, he will be joining a New Orleans team with rookie center Derik Queen and second year center Yves Missi.
New Orleans has had multiple roster changes heading into next season. Head of basketball operations Joe Dumars has made an immediate impact on the Pelicans roster. However, these trades have drawn some questions and concerns on Dumars start in New Orleans. He continues to build the roster in the way he sees fit with the Looney contract. Ultimately, the Pelicans lockdown a veteran center in Kevon Looney with championship experience who can mentor two younger centers.
