Kevin Porter Jr., who most recently played internationally in Greece, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic was first to report Sunday.
This comes months after Porter reached a plea deal on a domestic violence case that occurred last summer with his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kyrse Gondrezick. The following statement was released by the New York Police Department at the time after the incident.
“Upon arrival officers were informed that a 26-year-old female sustained a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining about pain to her neck,” a New York Police Department spokesperson said. “A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around her neck.”
Houston ultimately traded him–plus multiple second-round picks–to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Victor Oladipo last October; Oklahoma City subsequently released him.
What is Los Angeles doing? Why is the NBA allowing this? This is yet another instance where the NBA is falling on its face–putting it very, very nicely–with players who have a history of being domestic abusers. Even with a plea deal and a court-ordered program, this should be reprimanded accordingly.
