Kevin Durant is the best basketball player on the planet and he isn’t planning on leaving the Warriors anytime soon. I’m sure a lot of the cry babies that won’t stop complaining about the Warriors won’t like this but Durant confirmed that he will re-sign with the team this offseason. The soon to be 2018 Finals MVP will be a free agent this offseason but will re-up with the team.
Kevin Durant told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols on Thursday that he will stay with the Warriors:
“I’m planning on staying with the Warriors, and we’ll figure the rest out,” Durant said, before adding that only the “small details” remained to be figured out.”
Durant is about to win his second championship in as many seasons with the Warriors. Frankly, it’s not a surprise that he will stay with the Warriors. Golden State has really built a dynasty and this is a team that can sustain success for a number of years to come. Durant has built great chemistry with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson fitting into the team as naturally as possible.
Does LeBron James Really Make His Teammates Better? You Be The Judge
You can say whatever you want about Durant but he’s been a great team player. He took about $10 million less than he could have this past year so that the team could retain Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston. Durant signed a two-year deal worth $51 million but it’s pretty safe to assume that he will earn a raise this offseason. If Durant wants to sign a long-term deal, he is eligible to sign an extension worth around $158 million over the course of four years. As long as Durant sticks with the Warriors, it’s hard to fathom how many rings he can win in Golden State.
