It has been a rough stretch for the Kentucky football program, as they are losing their two top wide receivers to the transfer portal. First, we got the announcement from Dane Key, and now the Wildcats will be losing speed demon Barion Brown, too. The former four-star recruit will look to make a move to a bigger program to capitalize on his one remaining year of eligibility in college.
During his three seasons at Kentucky, Barion Brown posted 122 receptions for 1,528 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in his 37 career games. Brown was a pre-season First Team All-American, as it was anticipated he would have a massive year playing alongside Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff. However, this Kentucky offense struggled mightily in 2024, finishing 110th in the country with just 184.4 passing yards per game.
Brown brings game-breaking speed to the field and is a very dangerous return man. He has five career kickoff returns for touchdowns, the most of any player in SEC history. He ranks first in school history in kickoff return average with 29.3 yards per return, return average (36 yards per return), and scores (three) in 2023.
Barion Brown should have no shortage of suitors in the transfer portal. The trickiest part will be trying to implement his speed into an offense. He should immediately take over kick return duties, but finding a way to get the ball into his hands will be a priority no matter where he goes. Jet sweeps, touch passes, and underneath routes to let him cook in the open field, or just give him go routes and let hm take the to off the defense should be the recipe for Brown in 2025.
