Kenny Pickett: ‘I’m expecting a big jump in year two’ with Pittsburgh Steelers

It looks like the Steelers have grown more confident around their young quarterback in Kenny Pickett and he agrees. Just last week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had some high praise for the young Pittsburgh quarterback. After Tomlin addressed Pickett’s improvement to this upcoming season, the 24-year-old is expecting it too, per Pro Football Talk.

Pickett said he planned on taking some time off, but he started to not act like himself. His fiancée, Amy, quickly noticed this and addressed Pickett.

“I was planning on taking a lot more time off, but I’ve never taken a lot of time off,” Pickett said, via Steelers Official Team Website. “I took a couple of days off, and I wasn’t acting myself, and my fiancée Amy was like, you’ve got to get back to training.

“The week off was definitely good right after the season,” Pickett said, via Steelers Official Team Website. “But I was all about getting back to it. I just love to do it and it doesn’t feel like work to me. I don’t feel the same if I’m not training every day. It’s become part of my life and my lifestyle. I’m most comfortable doing that.”

This offseason, Pickett’s belief in himself has grown exponentially, and it shows in his attitude.

“I don’t track the hours. I just kind of go through how I need to prepare and then whatever it ends up being, it ends up being,” Pickett said, via Steelers Official Team Website. It would be about leaving the building when I felt good about the day’s work, and I felt really confident going into the game.”

“I’m just happy doing this. I genuinely like doing it. I like being here,” Pickett said, via Steelers Official Team Website. “In order to be great you have to have a love for the game, I want to be one of the best. I know what I have to do and there’s a lot of things that we need to do as a team to get us to our goals. I feel like it all starts with me and my play. I’ve got to be the guy that takes us there. I’m ready to take it on.”

Pickett had to get comfortable fast last season, as the Steelers seemed to throw him straight into the fire. In his first game action, Pickett threw three interceptions, but added two rushing touchdowns. He later won five of his last six games, sparking some excitement in the organization.

Pickett and the Steelers will look to continue with their momentum from last season heading into the new season in a tight division.
