Kemba Walker Is Reportedly Not A Happy Camper After Being Traded

Kemba Walker does not appear to be very happy following his split from Boston. Reports have surfaced that the former All-Star guard is heartbroken to be shipped off to Oklahoma City. The news makes sense as Walker clearly had a close bond with many of his former teammates, most notably Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Many thought the Celtics would be a dark horse in the Eastern Conference, but it was simply not meant to be. After a trip to the Conference Finals in last year’s bubble, Walker battled injuries all throughout the regular season and could not find his usual consistency. With two years and $73 million remaining on his contract from 2019 free agency, new team President Brad Stevens was clearly determined to address the team’s salary cap situation and take money off the books.

Many Celtics fans are also upset with the trade. Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard are both fine options at point guard, but did Boston really have to give up a first-round pick to get rid of him? There were plenty of speculated trades that could have worked out better for the Celtics. How sure are we that Al Horford is even any good at basketball anymore? He picked it up with the Thunder after looking like a complete disaster in Philadelphia, but he is 35 years old. Thunder GM Sam Presti was somehow able to get out of a bad contract in Horford and pick up a first-round in the process, so hats off to him. Stevens was able to get the best out of Horford years ago, but that was when he coached the team, and it is worth asking if Stevens is already in too deep with his new front-office role.
