KeAndre Lambert-Smith Transfers To Auburn
The Auburn Tigers offense got a big boost this past week, as former Penn State Nittany Lion KeAndre Lambert-Smith announced he is transferring to play for the school on his social media. Lambert-Smith entered the transfer portal on April 15th toward the end of spring practices. He was the leading receiver for the Nittany Lions last season, with 53 receptions for 673 yards and four touchdowns. He now heads to an offense led by Payton Thorne, and one that saw significant struggles in 2023.
Maybe KeAndre Lambert-Smith had seen enough from Drew Allar and decided he needed a change. This has been a rough off-season for Allar, who did not perform well at all during the spring game, drawing a lot of scrutiny. There was much hope for this offense after the arrival of Andy Kotelnicki, but this team went through horrible stretches after some thought Allar would be the one to lead Penn State to greater heights. Some even tabbed him the future number-one overall pick in the NFL Draft. Could he turn it around this season and find that potential? Maybe. But Lambert-Smith will not be there to find out.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith landing in Auburn is likely a blessing for Payton Thorne. Thorne saw limited action in his first year after transferring from Michigan State. Auburn has done a good job bringing in guys to help him out, including landing five-star recruit Cam Coleman, the number five overall recruit in the country. This offense ranked 121st in passing offense last season and is returning only one player with ten or more receptions, Tight End Rivaldo Fairweather. Expect Lambert-Smith to play a huge part in an offense that is looking to take a major step forward in 2024.
