Fantasy football is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes you just have to be on the right side of the injury luck for things to break your way. The first Sunday of the 2023-24 NFL Season is in the books and we had our first major injury that will impact fantasy races for the rest of the season. Is Justice Hill set to become a factor down the stretch?
In case you missed it, JK Dobbins tore his Achilles against Houston. Hill then stepped in and snagged two rushing touchdowns after Dobbins exited the game. Does this mean you should be rushing to the waiver wire to go pick up the former Oklahoma State product?
For starters, I’m just not sure Hill is that good. Even in the Houston game, Hill picked up nine rushing yards on eight attempts. He’s never had more than 58 carries in any season. I’m not sure he’s built to be a workhorse back and he’s had troubles staying on the field in his own right.
Additionally, the Ravens ranked 31st in running back rushing attempts last season. We know that Lamar Jackson is going to steal a number of the overall rushing attempts. Gus Edwards still very much exists and probably is the lead back going forward. Unlike Hill, Edwards actually has a body of work and rushed for over 700 yards in each of his first three years in the NFL.
Long story short, I like Hill but I’m not willing to spend all of my FAB money to go get him. Hill will pick up points with Dobbins out but expecting top end production is probably silly. Don’t expect two rushing touchdowns every week. He’s going to be in a committee with Edwards and you will never know which one to start.
