Josh Simmons 2025 NFL Draft Profile

This is going to be a hard one. Josh Simmons very much feels like a wildcard in this offensive tackle class. We’re going to talk about all of the reasons why, so I’m just going to get on with it if you don’t mind. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Ohio State product!

Simmons, 22, was a three star guard prospect out of the state of California in high school. He ballooned into the frame, he is now (6-foot-5, 317), and transferred to Ohio State after one year and another redshirt year at San Diego State. I thought he was just okay as a sophomore, allowing ten QB hurries in 13 games. Then this past year, he looked like a different animal but missed most of the season with a lower body injury. He racked up 25 penalties from 2022-23.

He was starting to entrench himself as a real left tackle with Ohio State, but tore his patellar in the Oregon game. The only problem is I didn’t cover him in the Stock notes because the Buckeyes’ schedule was cupcake city the first five weeks of the year. We’re talking games against Akron, Western Michigan, Marshall, Michigan State, and Iowa. Simmons has the best pressure rate allowed for any tackle in the draft this past year, but how do you even take that mark seriously given all that?

No Combine here either. He did work out at the Ohio State Pro Day, but of course, that wasn’t televised, so I don’t have access to that tape either. Not much I can do about that until you, the viewer, start donating to the VSM foundation. He did rip out 33 reps on the bench, though, which is obviously a good number.

Good luck figuring this one out. I think the most concerning part for me is the part where Donovan Jackson moved to left tackle, and he looked better doing it. Simmons should probably be viewed as a lump of clay developmental tackle with upside. God bless you if you have a strong opinion on this one, because I don’t know how you can possibly have all the answers figured out here, given the evidence to work with.
