The Bills are making an addition to their wide receiver room. On the opening day of free agency, Buffalo has struck a three-year agreement with former Chargers wide out Josh Palmer.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
Palmer’s deal with Buffalo is a three-year agreement worth $36 million. $18 million of the deal is guaranteed.
On a separate side note, I do find it strange that Buffalo was willing to give this contract to Palmer but passed on signing Gabe Davis to essentially the same deal. Both players who were picked in the third round but haven’t totally live up to the potential they have.
Amari Cooper is a free agent. I would imagine this Palmer deal takes him out of the equation. The Bills WR next year will likely now consist of Palmer, Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman. The only problem is Palmer hasn’t proved that he’s actually a good player yet. Despite the fact that the Chargers moved on from Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, it was Ladd McConkey who emerged as the guy.
Palmer, 25, posted 39 receptions for 584 yards and one touchdown last year with very little competition on the roster. The idea that Palmer emerges as a dude in Buffalo feels slim. If it does happen, everyone needs to bow on their knees to Josh Allen because the Chargers never got Palmer to actually perform like a good player. Time will tell if this deal actually pans out.
