NFL players got permission to compete in the Olympic flag football tournament, and Team USA may already have their quarterback ready to go for it. The tournament is three years away, but Josh Allen is throwing his hat in the ring to be the guy.
The Bills signal caller claims he would love to compete in the tournament.
“I’m not gonna disrespect the guys that are playing flag football right now, but, you know, if there’s an opportunity for me to try, I would absolutely love to,” Allen told reporters. “I’ve always wanted to compete for my country and, you know, every time the Olympics are on, I’m tuned in and glued to the screen. But I think there’s really no greater honor to do that. That’d be really cool.”
Allen, 29, is arguably the best quarterback the sport has to offer. It’s really not a debate. Allen has scored at least 40 touchdowns in each of the last five seasons. Yes, flag football may be different from the NFL, but it’s not hard to envision Allen carving the players alive in this type of setting.
This is also a very different response from the one that Patrick Mahomes gave. It doesn’t sound like the Chiefs quarterback is interested in playing in this tournament at all…
“I’ll probably leave that to the younger guys,” Mahomes told beat reporters. “I’ll be a little older by the time that thing comes around.”
