Jordan Poyer resigning with Bills Mafia

The Buffalo Bills free safety of the last six years is officially returning after testing the free agency market. Jordan Poyer has agreed to terms on a new deal with the Bills. The contract is reported to be for two years. Details on the amount have not been released yet but will likely be known shortly. Now entering his eleventh season, Poyer will be looking to prove he is still an elite caliber safety.

Jordan Poyer did miss five games due to injury during the regular season last year. He also left the Bills divisional round loss to Cincinnati because of a concussion. A player who had not missed a start in four years, Poyer was noticeably not as productive in 2022 as he had been the previous five seasons in Buffalo. Poyer will be turning 32 in April of this year. He clearly was not enticed enough by offers from other teams to leave Bills Mafia. The Bills keeping Poyer in Buffalo, if he can remain healthy, will be an important piece of another push for a Super Bowl appearance in 2023.

Poyer a Large Reason for Bills Turnaround

Jordan Poyer joined the Bills in 2017 as a free agent who played the majority of his career in Cleveland. Poyer developed into one of the NFL’s most respected free safeties after joining the Bills. The 2021 first team All-Pro played a crucial role in the gradual improvement of Buffalo’s defense over the last six seasons. The rise of Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, and Buffalo’s offense received most of the medias attention in Buffalo. A defense led by players like Jordan Poyer were a large reason for the Bills resurgence as a contender.

Buffalo will not have at least some of the fire power on defense they have had the previous few seasons. They have already lost linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in free agency. They were unexpectedly able to resign Jordan Poyer however. Minimizing the list of roles on defense to fill. The Bills fell short in reaching the Super Bowl last season after they were the pick of many to win it all. Keeping a high quality defensive player like Poyer will be important in their pursuit of a Lombardi trophy this upcoming season.
