Jonathan Marchessault Is Already Causing Problems In Nashville?

Jonathan Marchessault suffers from the disease of me and that’s been pretty obvious since the Summer. He couldn’t have sounded more delusional about his contract situation with Vegas and ultimately inked a deal with the Nashville Predators.

It’s safe to say things haven’t exactly gone according to plan in Nashville. The Preds have 22 points in 31 games. Only the Blackhawks are doing worse. Oh, and Marchessault is acting like a clown too.

A new report surfaced that Marchy almost was healthy scratched because he complained about having different linemates.

VIA 32 Thoughts by Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet:

19. Brunette’s tone sharpened this week — “I could probably scratch every guy on the team” — after Jonathan Marchessault complained in Montreal that he had different linemates for warmups and to start the game. Trotz said he pulled aside Marchessault, who didn’t realize the coach wanted to start him and Zachary L’Heureux in their hometown as a reward. Nothing shows how completely off the rails Nashville’s season’s been more than that. “Lost in Translation,” Trotz called it.”

By the way, earlier in the season, Marchessault called the Predators a ‘fragile team’. Who knows what he’s done that hasn’t come to light yet? In fairness, maybe calling this Predators team ‘fragile’ isn’t too out of line but anybody who did their homework should have known what they were signing up with when you added Marchessault to the team.

As Kelly McCrimmon said when Vegas declined to match Marchessault’s demands, Marchy is a ‘fiery guy’. The only problem is now he’s a declining guy who’s delusional and suffers from the disease of me. After scoring a career high 42 goals last season, he’s not going to come close to that total in 2024-25. The right winger has seven goals in 31 games this season.

I just don’t know how more people didn’t see this coming. The job of a general manager is to figure out why the team is winning and why the team is losing. Clearly, Vegas doesn’t miss him as they sit in first place in the Pacific. Maybe, just maybe, Jack Eichel is the reason why he scored that many goals in the past… which is what I tried to tell you in my fantasy hockey column but nobody wanted to listen.
