Jon Jones Wants ‘F**k You Money’ To Fight Tom Aspinall

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has a massive question after his UFC 309 victory. What’s next? The typical thought process would say interim champion Tom Aspinall is next in line. That does not seem like a guarantee, however. Jones will only accept the Aspinall fight if he is compensated with a massive payday.

Jones told the media his payment request during the UFC 309 post-press conference.

“He’s (Tom Aspinall) annoying to me,” Jones said. “He’s annoying to me. And that’s my own personal- he annoys me. I get to you guys, you find it entertaining, but I find him annoying. I just don’t like him. At the end of the day, if I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated. I’m going to say it, I want that f**k you money.”

“A very, very, very, high number,” Jones said when asked what f**k you money meant to him. “It’s going to be a high number. I’ve learned over the years not to really get into finances publically, but I want to be compensated to the point where if I won or lost it really would not matter.”

Jones’ future is uncertain after his UFC 309 comments regarding Aspinall. It would be unprecedented for an undisputed champion to fight anyone other than the interim champion. That said, it is rare for an interim champion to defend that belt. That is something Aspinall has already gone. This is clearly a unique situation.

The likelihood of a bout between Jones and Aspinall becomes less likely considering the undisputed champion has consistently angled for a fight with Alex Pereira instead.

It will be interesting to see if the UFC is willing to pay Jones his requested amount. It is hard to predict considering the amount is unknown. At the same time, the number may not exist. A common strategy to avoid a fight is to prize yourself out. That makes the UFC look like the bad guy, not the fighter.

Only time will tell if the UFC is willing to buck up and pay Jones. That’s if Jones wants the fight. Regardless, it will likely be the fight the fans are asking for.
