Johnny Gaudreau Tragically Passes Away

This isn’t exactly the best news to start your morning but unfortunately, it’s part of life. Blue Jackets winger Johnny Gaudreau has tragically passed away in what is being called a cycling accident. Johnny and his brother were both killed after being struck by an oncoming vehicle in Salem County, New Jersey.

The Blue Jackets released a statement on the tragic news:

“The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy,” the team said in statement. “Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children, Noa and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew.”

“Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets. He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could. The impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound, but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him.”

Gaudreau, 31, signed a seven year deal worth $68.5 million two offseasons ago. There hasn’t been any team success since Johnny Hockey took his talents to Ohio. However, he will be remembered fondly for a great career at Boston College and his run with the Calgary Flames. It would have been Gaudreau’s 11th NHL Season coming up this year.

We here at Vendetta wish the Gaudreau family the absolute best during these dark times.
