Joey Votto Predicts Alien Invasion, and Even Weirder, A Reds World Series

Protect Joey Votto at all costs.

The legendary first baseman took to social media Monday morning. He reacted to a post on Instagram by MLB, which asked the viewer to “Drop your boldest NL Central prediction.”

Votto, 39, was as hilarious as ever.

“Extra terrestrials arrive on earth, April 15th. The 12-2 Reds and the rest of the planet learn from, communicate with, and befriend our alien friends. This process takes 5 months. Play resumes in October. The Reds sweep the playoffs and are World Series champs. Side note: the aliens ask if I would like to accompany them on their ship back to their planet. I oblige. Never to be seen again.”

I think the only way the Reds could win the World Series is if all these things happen. I mean, it might be more likely that aliens make their arrival than the Reds even starting 12-2.

The comment has over 13,000 likes as of Wednesday morning. The Reds’ official social media page chimed in on the subject as well.

“We agree with @joeyvotto”

The Reds sucked last year. Everyone knows that Cincinnati isn’t competing again this season, which is probably why Votto commented on this in the first place. Even Votto struggled last season, his OPS and OPS+ both hitting career lows.

I genuinely think Votto has his foot out of the door, is a legend, and feels infallible. It’s going to be a fun year of Joey Votto’s antics.

This is par for the course for Votto, who has a laundry list of gags and pranks that he has pulled during his 16 seasons in the big leagues.

Remember the legendary Ichiro Suzuki? Ichiro and Votto went back and forth on the pranks for years. When Ichiro retired, Votto made sure to send him a retirement gift, in the form of 51 pizzas to his locker to honor Suzuki’s number 51.

Here’s another one. In 2016, when Votto acted like he was going to toss a ball into the stands, maybe give it to a kid. Instead, it was just a ploy to fake out Phillies fans. He pocketed the ball. That was one of my favorites of his.

How could you not love Joey Votto? Votto should be a Hall of Famer and likely will be as soon as he’s eligible.
