Joe Pavelski To Retire From Hockey

Joe Pavelski appear to be hanging up his hockey skates. The longtime NHL forward spoke to media following the Dallas Stars’ elimination against the Oilers and looks to retire. The former Stars and Sharks forward has played over 1300 NHL games and another 201 in the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Wisconsin native has come so close to the Stanley Cup but will fall short of the trophy. He revealed his plans to reporters earlier today:

When you saw the faces of some Dallas players after their Game Six elimination on Sunday night, their emotions said it all. In a seventeen-year career, Pavelski has long been applauded as one of the best teammates around along with being a heck of a player. His final lines are 476 goals and 592 assists for 1,068 points in 1,332 games. He also had 143 points in 201 playoff games. The 39-year-old made two appearances in the Stanley Cup Final as well. He led San Jose to an appearance against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016. Then, in his first year in Dallas, he helped the Stars reach the 2020 Cup Final in the bubble against Tampa Bay.

A Heart Breaker

This is one of those tough pills to swallow in hockey. He’s had so many bites of the apple with both teams but he has come up painfully short. Many fans outside of both the Stars and Sharks were pulling for him to get over the hump. Obviously, the Stanley Cup would serve as the cherry on top of an impressive NHL stint. On top of plenty of points he also routinely found himself in the Top Ten for Selke and Lady Byng. He played the game the right way and earned the right to win a Cup. Instead, he is joining the likes of Henrik Lundqvist, the Sedin twins, and many more who just couldn’t make the promised land. However, we should be seeing more of him in the future. Pavelski should be breaking into the media industry sooner or later.

Joe Pavelski is one of the good guys of the game of hockey. He is sadly going to retire without a well-deserved Stanley Cup.
