Jimmy Butler. He’s a name we all come to associate with playoff basketball, in large part due to his ability to seemingly raise his level of play in the biggest games. It has caused many people to wonder what he does to elevate his game so much. But I think Butler himself has confirmed what his secret weapon is and frankly, it wasn’t what I expected. The secret weapon in this case is Butler’s love for country music.
Yes, you read that right, the great Jimmy Butler has a knack for blasting some country tunes. But the story of how Jimmy Butler got into country music is perhaps even more interesting than the revelation itself.
The story starts with Butler’s days back at Marquette University. The new Beats by Dre were very popular and many of Butler’s teammates used them to listen to music. However, as Jimmy would explain, his teammates would always have the headphones down around their necks rather than over their ears, forcing anybody nearby to listen to whatever music they were listening to.
Well over time this bothered Jimmy Butler causing him to want to seek out revenge. So he went home and looked up ‘What is the most country song’? Which led him to Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl”. He then started blasting it in the locker room to try and annoy his teammates, but instead found that he enjoyed the song.
This seemingly then sent him down a barrel of country music and he has seemingly been in love ever since, but this isn’t some new revelation the internet is just now finding out about. Seven months ago Butler was on a podcast where he explained this story and how it sparked his love for country music.
However, clips of that interview are now making their rounds on Tik Tok, shedding more light on this random piece of information regarding Jimmy Butler. Butler has taken such a liking to country music, he’s said he plans to release his own country album in the future.
I have no idea what Jimmy Butler’s singing abilities are like, but my bet is not good. Then again, if he is half as good a singer as he is a basketball player, then he should be in good shape. I know, I for one, am hoping he releases it because I for sure will be listening to it.
As for it being his secret weapon? Well, I can’t really say, it very likely isn’t but hey you can’t say it’s not. What I do know is whatever Butler is doing is clearly working and if that’s country music then so be it.
He and the Miami Heat currently hold a 3-1 lead over the Boston Celtics with a chance to advance to the Finals Thursday. Celtics better hope Butler doesn’t get around to listening to some Tim McGraw. It could be the final nail in the coffin.
