The question of who is a Hall of Famer and who isn’t is a staple in professional sports debate. In the MMA world, a debate has been sparked as to whether Jim Miller deserves a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame. In an episode of “DC and RC” hosts Daniel Cormier and Ryan Clark argued over the potential of Miller being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Cormier, a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, stated that Miller should not have a place in the hall.
“It makes me feel bad, because … I’m of the other side,” Cormier said. “I tap out, bro. I don’t feel, RC, like time served immediately puts you in the Hall of Fame. Look, he’s got more wins than anyone else. I love Jim Miller, and this makes it hard for me, but I just don’t feel like time served puts you in the Hall of Fame.”

It is hard to say if Cormier is correct or not. The one important note about the UFC Hall of Fame is that it is incredibly young. That means there is not a clear standard for what makes a fighter Hall of Fame worthy.
In older sports, a standard has been set for the Hall of Fame. It makes it possible to statistically evaluate players and determine if they are worthy of entering the Hall of Fame.
At the moment, the UFC Hall of Fame is quite exclusive. The Modern Wing features nine fighters while the Pioneers Wing features 17. The Hall is expecting some new faces though as Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Jens Pulver and Donald Cerrone will all be inducted into the class of 2023.
While Miller never reached championship status, he currently holds several UFC records. The most notable are his records for UFC appearances with 42 and wins with 25. Overall, Miller has complied a UFC record of 25-16 and one no-contest. Additionally, 15 of those 25 wins came via finishes which is a lightweight record.
The inclusion of Cerrone into the Hall of Fame should provide Miller with some optimism. Cerrone largely entered the Hall due to his longevity and notoriety. If Cerrone can get in, so can Miller.
For what it’s worth Clark, a former NFL player, vouched for Miller’s induction, despite Cormier’s reluctance.
