Aaron Rodgers is out. Justin Fields is in. The Jets have a new starting quarterback and the former Ohio State product will be reunited with Garrett Wilson in New York. Fields has signed a two-year deal with the Jets!
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
The full details of the contract with New York look like this. It’s a 2-year deal worth $40 million total. Most of it is guaranteed with $30 million locked in for sure.
Fields, 26, has experienced a mostly bumpy ride during his semi-brief NFL career. Fields was brutal with Chicago. Then experienced brief success with the Steelers prior to when he was benched in favor of Russell Wilson. It sounds like the Steelers tried to bring him back on a similar offer but Fields opted for the Jets instead. Likely because Tomlin was a prick and idiotically benched him for a player that’s totally washed up but the end part of that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
It feels pretty certain that Garrett Wilson was a big part of the recruiting pitch. Also, the Jets need to pay Wilson soon and getting him a QB that he’s happy with had to be a priority.
The only thing we don’t know is if this changes the Jets draft plans. Will New York still draft a QB? Tyrod Taylor is still on the roster as well. So is Jordan Travis. This could be Fields job to run with… pun intended.
