Safe to say that Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is not having a great week.
The Broncos suffered their 2nd straight loss and fell to 1-5 on the year after they went into Arrowhead Thursday night and put up a measly eight points. To make things worse, before the game, Jeudy and legendary former wide receiver Steve Smith, Sr. chirped a little bit, after Smith said that Jeudy was a “JAG” in the past (Just Another Guy).
Jeudy remembered what Smith had to say about him, and he took it to heart.
“When I saw him, he’s playing well. I wanted to say to him face to face, like, ‘Hey, I know I said some things in the past I probably shouldn’t have, and I’m sorry.’ That’s what I wanted to say to him,” Smith said on the NFL Network.
“His response was ‘ninja’ — I’m using the word ninja — ‘I don’t mess with you.’ There was a curse word.”
That prompted the feisty Smith to go in on the former 2020 first-round pick, saying he wouldn’t recommend any team try and trade for Jeudy.
Jeudy didn’t quite use the harsh words as motivation, hauling in just three catches for 14 yards. It’s been a trend for the former Alabama standout. His season high in yards is a mediocre 52, and he still hasn’t reached the end zone. The poor performance prompted Broncos legend and longtime broadcaster Mark Schlereth to absolutely rip into Jeudy on his radio show.
“The effort from our starting wide receivers — shame on Jerry Jeudy for even thinking he can utter the name of Rod Smith in his tweets,” the 3x Super Bowl champion said on his “Schlereth and Evans” show on 104.3 The Fan.
“Shame on you because you’re not a professional. You’re not a professional … And you don’t know what effort is. Your quarterback is under duress, you’re locked up — somebody locks you up in man coverage on an underneath route—to call it trotting would be an insult to trotting. You just quit, you gave up. You said, ‘Well, the ball’s not coming to me.’ Hey, you’re a lantern holder shining a light on Russ (Wilson). ‘Hey, Russ. You’re under duress. I hope it works out for you because I’m not gonna do anything to bail your ass out. Good luck with that. Oh! A sack. Weird.'”
Schlereth isn’t wrong. Russell Wilson isn’t actually playing too badly this year, throwing for 1,305 yards, 12 TDs and four interceptions with a 65.8 completion percentage. However, he was atrocious on Thursday, going 13-22 for 95 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Is it all on Russ? He’s a ghost of his former self, but as Schlereth said, the Broncos receivers are not helping the cause whatsoever.
“Courtland Sutton not coming back to the ball. Neither of those two guys would play for me. I would cut both of those guys,” Schlereth said. “They would not play. Jerry Jeudy would not be on my team. Jerry Jeudy couldn’t play on the teams I’ve played on if his life depended on it.
“He’s not tough enough, he’s not focused enough, he’s not good enough, he’s not anything enough. He could not play on our teams. Mike Shanahan would cut him tomorrow. I wouldn’t have him on my team. You can have him. And that’s the reason that the Broncos stink.”
Schlereth even continued the tirade on Twitter, after Jeudy went on there to express his frustration.
these old heads be some lame aihh haters

In response, Mark Schlereth fired back.
3 for 14… love it when a dude who gets challenged by his "old head haters" rises up to the challenge! And yes I'm talking about you @jerryjeudy

It hasn’t been pretty, and if Jeudy continues to underperform, expect more fuel to the fire.
