The Bengals probably wish they could hit the redo button on the Jermaine Burton pick. The Cincinnati rookie wide receiver is in trouble off the field in a major way. He was recently accused of choking a 19-year-old woman he was dating and threatening to kill himself all in one swing.
Cincinnati Enquirer reported the following:
“Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton is accused of assaulting a woman he was dating, but she refused to press charges, Cincinnati police reports show.”
“An assault was reported the morning of Dec. 30, just days before the Cincinnati Bengals nixed Burton from traveling with the team to Pittsburgh, the last game of the season.”
“The Enquirer also learned that Burton is facing eviction from his apartment at The Banks. Those proceedings started Dec. 17.”
If you read my draft profile on Burton, you know I wasn’t really high on him coming out. A big reason why was because it was pretty obvious that he was a knucklehead and had a really limited skillset. Burton and Tyrique Stevenson were known head cases at Georgia so this really is surprising as sad as that is to say.
Who knows what will follow after all of this but it certainly sure feels like a possible suspension could be on the table. The only thing that clear is that the guy who was drafted to replace Tyler Boyd isn’t exactly doing his part to live up to expectations. Hell, the guy doesn’t even know the plays and Andrei Iosivas out of Princeton passed him on the depth chart.
Let’s hope the woman is okay and that Burton seeks the help he needs to get back on track.
