Jeffery Simmons, Titans Agree To Four Year Extension

Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and the Tennessee Titans have agreed to a four-year contract extension on Friday, according to Turron Davenport. The deal will be worth $94 million, according to Adam Schefter.

Simmons, 25, is now wrapping up his rookie contract. He has been one of the most dominant defensive tackles in all of football since he was drafted in the first round by Tennessee in 2019. Simmons has really bursted onto the scene in the last two seasons, where he’s combined for 16 sacks. He’s posted two pro bowl appearances and two All-Pro second teams since 2021. PFF ranked Simmons as the ninth best interior defensive lineman in all of football last season.

Simmons confirmed the news on Twitter, with a cryptic message that could be determined in either way: that he was leaving or staying. Titans fans are happy to hear about the latter.

Titans fans can also be happy with the first splash move by general manager Ran Carthon. Carthon was hired in January after Jon Robinson was given the pink slip. Carthon’s contract extension keeps a top player in town and keeps fans happy.

Setting The Market

This deal is very similar to the four-year deal that Daron Payne just got from the Washington Commanders. Now, some will wonder how Simmons and Payne’s deals will affect the market for the Jets’ Quinnen Williams and the Giants’ Dexter Lawrence. Both of which are interior defensive lineman who are due for huge pay days in the near future.

Expect both Williams and Lawrence to be compensated for their work. Maybe they’ll get Chris Jones money, which is the record for defensive tackles at four-years/$80 million.

This move is a good one for Titans. They kept an All-Pro caliber, fan favorite player in town, with the extension of Simmons. This is a good start to the Carthon era.
