Jayson Tatum Needs A Good Slap In The Face

Jayson Tatum Needs A Good Slap In The Face

He just doesn’t get it. Self awareness in basketball is so crucial. It’s why Russell Westbrook is the worst player in the NBA compared to what he could be given the natural athleticism he has. Westbrook is not the topic today. While Jayson Tatum has proven he’s a very good basketball player, it’s impossible to not be worried about the idea that he’s slowly becoming a cancer.

The Boston Celtics are a mess. Nobody has blown more 4th quarter leads this season. That is just a fact. The Celtics sit 23-24 currently which is a far cry from their actual talent level.

Blame who you want. Ime Udoka appears to be a dope. Udoka has made more than one coaching decision this year that makes you question if he passed third grade. Udoka needs to go but then again, the Celtics struggled last season with Brad Stevens. At some point, the players have to get some blame too because we know how brilliant Stevens is as a tactical coach.

In reality, it’s probably an easy fix. Just not one that Udoka or Stevens is built for. The truth of the matter is, Jayson Tatum needs a good slap in the face. Everyone needs one when they get out of line. Myself included. Jaylen Brown probably needs one too but Tatum is starting to become a real issue.

Stevens is too nice of a guy to get through to Tatum and Udoka is too stupid to command any level of respect. It’s not hard to see that Tatum is currently part of the problem, not the solution. Tatum thinks his shit doesn’t stink. Tatum thinks he’s better than he really is and has no IQ when it comes to shot selection. He doesn’t pass or ever make the right play.

Tatum, 23, through 43 games is shooting 41.3% and 31.1% from three-point range. Sorry, not good enough for a max level superstar. Of course, we should remember that Tatum is just 23 and has more growing to do. Also, Boston’s +/- is significantly higher with Tatum on the floor. I’m not trying to pick on the guy but someone has to say something. He’s playing like a turd and this your turn, my turn BS has to stop.

The Celtics are a disaster. They are totally unwatchable. Nothing is going to get solved until someone slaps Tatum in the face (same probably goes for Brown). I don’t care who it is (although Marcus Smart feels like a good candidate to be that guy). The only thing I know is things need to change because it’s embarrassing to be a Celtics fan right now.
