In case you missed it, Phil Knight basically went public and broke up with Kyrie Irving. Knight says it’s very unlikely they will ever do business with Kyrie again. If you thought this story was over, keep dreaming because we’re just getting started with the Kyrie stories that are about to come in the future. There are going to be people in his corner and one of those appears to be Jaylen Brown.
It’s important to remember that Brown is the NBAPA leader. Rumor is the NBAPA is already unhappy with the suspension given to Kyrie. After this latest Nike incident, Brown came over the top with the ultimate haymaker.
“Since when did Nike care about ethics?”
Does the man have a point? Does Nike treat every single factory employee with the best work conditions? Do all of them receive fair play? Has Nike ever crossed the line in terms of ethics? When you put it like that, maybe Brown does have a point.
It seems fair to say that Brown believes everyone is overreacting to the Kyrie stuff. In fairness to Brown, he also has no reason to stand up for Kyrie. Especially given what happened when Kyrie and Brown were teammates together in Boston.
VIA an interview with the Boston Globe on Monday:
“He made a mistake. He posted something,” Brown said of Irving to the Boston Globe. “There was no distinction. Maybe we can move forward, but the terms in which he has to fulfill to return, I think not just speaking for me, speaking as a vice president from a lot of our players, we didn’t agree with the terms that was required for him to come back. But we’ll go from there. That’s all I’ll say.”
