NBA players, especially black athletes, have faced a lot of toxicity from fans across all platforms. Even from their own fans. Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown has experienced this same toxic behavior from a portion of Celtics fans as a black athlete in Boston. Now, the superstar has a problem with it after shutting his mouth, according to the New York Post.
“It’s not the whole Celtic fan base. But it is a part of the fan base that exists within the Celtic nation that is problematic,” Brown said. “If you have a bad game, they tie it to your personal character.
“I definitely think there’s a group or an amount within the Celtic nation that is extremely toxic and does not want to see athletes use their platform, or they just want you to play basketball and entertain and go home. And that’s a problem to me.”
Brown has spent his entire career with the Boston Celtics. The Celtics drafted Brown No. 3 overall in the 2016 NBA draft and has quietly become one of the league’s best young superstars. Now Brown becomes one of the most recent NBA players to speak out against experiences in Boston. Brown spoke about his experiences alongside NBA player LeBron James on “The Shop.”
Boston Celtics fans are known for saying anything that comes to their mind towards opposing and their own players including Brown. If something goes wrong, they will say something.
“They will say anything,” James said on ‘The Shop’ episode. “And it’s fine. It’s my life, f–k I’ve been dealing with it my whole life. I don’t mind it. I hear it. If I hear somebody close by, I check them real quick, then move onto the game. They’re going to say whatever the f–k they want to say.”
