The Los Angeles Lakers are cooking once again this free agency. The Lakers have just signed high-flying seven-footer Jaxson Hayes after his time in New Orleans ended. Hayes will be receiving a two-year deal with Los Angeles, giving him a chance at redemption in the NBA, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.
Hayes’ NBA career has been a roller coaster as he’s struggled to find a role. The 23-year-old has had trouble off the court, too. Not too long ago, Hayes was charged with domestic violence in Los Angeles. He was eventually sentenced to three years of probation, 450 hours of community service and a year of weekly domestic violence classes.
In his time in the NBA, Hayes hasn’t quite had the chance to shine. In his career, Hayes has averaged only 20 minutes per game one time, back in the 2021-22 season. During that record-setting year, he averaged a career-high 9.3 points per game along with five rebounds, all while shooting an impressive 62% from the field.
Last season, Hayes averaged around five points, three rebounds on 55% shooting from the field. He would only appear in just 47 games, in which he started in two.
Now joining the Lakers, Hayes will become a key part to the team’s championship hopes. Backing up Anthony Davis could spark a relaunch in his career. Davis is known to be injury prone, having multiple occurrences in which he missed a handful of games at a time over the past few seasons.
Can signing a deal with the Lakers create a new image for Hayes’ short career? Let us know in the comments.
