Javon Hargrave has signed a 4-year deal with the 49ers for a total of $84 million. The deal was first reported on by Ian Rapoport
Javon Hargrave the former Eagle was a key contributor on an elite Eagles defensive line tallying 11 total sacks. He will serve as an instant upgrade much like he did in Philadelphia where in his second season he set a career-high in sacks at 7.5.
This signing comes after the Eagles made the questionable decision to not re-sign the stud pass rusher. Many people within the organization including Nick Sirianni expressed a desire to bring Javon Hargrave back on account of his personality and on-the-field play.
And going into his age 30 season, he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. With his last two seasons being the best of his career. The Eagles’ defensive line was the best in the league and often created favorable matchups for Javon Hargrave. So it will be interesting to see how he does when defenses are going to be more focused on him.
Regardless of that, the 49ers are still getting an absolute stud who can wreak havoc on any given play. I know as an Eagle fan I am very upset to see him go. And very much wish we could have worked out a deal to bring him back.
But alas it’s a business and one in which the 49ers will get to reap the rewards of Javon Hargraves’s skill sets. His time in Philly will be missed and his time in San Francisco will very much be cherished. Being paired up with the likes of Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and others should be a recipe for another elite Javon Hargrave season.
