Jason Sudeikis: Ted Lasso could be over after Season 3

Bad news for Ted Lasso fans as it appears the hit series may be coming to an end after season three.

The series stars titular character Ted Lasso, who is played by Jason Sudeikis, as he goes from being an American college football coach to the head coach of an English soccer team. This sports comedy-drama has offered plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments throughout its run. The television show, which airs on Apple TV, has had two successful seasons with the third season releasing soon on March 15.

Fans have yet to sink their teeth into the new Ted Lasso content, and this news is still sad. Sudeikis discussed the new season and the fact that people want more without even seeing season three when speaking to Deadline. He felt season three was a fitting conclusion.

“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,“ Sudeikis said.

This is at least a good sign for fans of the series as it shows the creators put a lot of focus into telling a great story. The first two seasons have been pure entertainment so it is nice to know that the third season should keep that trend going.

More Information on Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso’s story has been one of the series’ strong points along with the phenomenal Sudeikis and his comedy. However, it appears he is confident in the way season three will wrap up the story.

“Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it,’” Sudeikis said.

I doubt that everyone will be satisfied with the ending, not because I do not believe they will deliver a fitting conclusion, but because as television fans we always want more. No one ever wants to have one of their favorite television shows ends but maybe it is for the best. Time and time again series overstay their welcome and shows begin to fall off.

However, all hope is not lost as he left the door open for potential spin-off shows.

“Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks … to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” Sudeikis added.

This might not be the news Ted Lasso fans wanted to hear but if anything it just builds even more anticipation for season three. Ted Lasso will arrive on Apple TV on March 15 with the last episode airing on May 31, 2023.
