Jameson Williams and Kyren Williams Are First Cousins?

In today’s “how are we just now finding this out?” news, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams casually revealed that he and Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams are first cousins. This report comes to us via Dannie Rogers, a Detroit Lions team reporter, who said Jameson Williams told her himself.

As GFed of Walk-On Challenge fame points out, it’s very strange that nobody knew this information until today. It’s not listed on Wikipedia or Pro Football Reference, and a Google search will tell you the opposite. However, if a Lions team reporter is throwing it out there with Jameson Williams as a primary source, you can feel pretty confident that it’s true. Both Jameson and Kyren hail from St. Louis, Missouri and played at Ohio State/Alabama and Notre Dame, respectively. Apparently, football runs in the family.

It’s even stranger that this is coming out now, not back in September when the Lions and Rams met in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. Jameson and Kyren each scored a touchdown as Detroit pulled out a 26-20 victory in overtime.

It’s an interesting little tidbit that almost makes you wonder if any other high-profile athletes are related and no one knows because it’s never come up.
